Truth Told Sideways exists because some truths are too direct to survive first contact.

Say them plainly and people defend themselves. Wrap them in story, satire, metaphor, contradiction, memory, or a cracked little scene from ordinary life, and something different happens. The truth slips past the guards. It lands somewhere deeper. It waits there. Then, later, it starts making noise. That is the point of this site.

Idiot Factory Now Available On Amazon

I’m Mark Brent. I write fiction and nonfiction about the places where people think they understand their lives, right up until that understanding starts to break apart. My fiction moves through magical realism, dark satire, and psychological tension. My nonfiction pushes against the easy comfort of self-help and looks instead at the systems people build to avoid what is actually happening.

This blog is not just an extension of an About page. This is where the work will breathe.

Some posts will be journal entries: thoughts from inside the process, notes on writing, observations about suffering, identity, overthinking, belief, avoidance, culture, and all the strange machinery we mistake for normal life.

Some posts will orbit Idiot Factory, my first published book, which examines why we suffer and why we keep clinging to that suffering even when we could let go. There will be updates, reflections, media, behind-the-scenes pieces, and ideas that connect to the world of the book without simply repeating it.

And some posts will be fiction. Short stories. Fractures. Experiments. Little sideways truths wearing someone else’s clothes.

That is what Truth Told Sideways is meant to hold: essays, stories, ideas, and uncomfortable little recognitions that do not arrive cleanly. The work here will not always offer answers. It may not offer comfort. But it will keep circling the same question in different forms:

What happens when we finally stop pretending?

This is the place for that work.

Not polished certainty.

Not motivational noise.

Not another idiot factory making better masks.

Just the truth, when it has to come in sideways.
